Addressing Student Homelessness
We work in coalition to eliminate the challenge of student homelessness in our partner schools with the goal of improving educational outcomes. We support families during and after the housing placement process. We aim to create stability that supports parent engagement in their child’s education.
Family Led Stability Initiative
The Family-Led Stability Initiative (FLSI) is a unique collective impact initiative focused on reducing student homelessness. Since January 2018, four non-profit organizations, in collaboration with three city agencies have provided permanent housing for 239 homeless families including 327 students attending nine of 20 FLSI – participating Boston schools.
The FLSI links education and affordable housing delivery systems to achieve the dual goals of reducing family homelessness and improving health and educational outcomes for families served by the target schools. The FLSI is a unique collaboration of community organizations and public agencies to support homeless students and families through a coordinated approach that will increase access to affordable housing and reduce frequent student disruptions to learning.
Our Focus Areas
We focus on challenges identified by community members. We leverage the many resources that exist in our partner schools and our community. We view these focus areas as interconnected – that’s why our approach is holistic and multi-faceted.
